Default catalytic converter 99' accord

my cat isn't operating correctly. something with the straw? i dont know i'm new at most of this, but what i can say is that there wanting 1000 + in repairing it. i know i can go to the store and buy a generic one but i dont know how to replace it. also my engine gives away that the cat isnt working by making some sort of "crackling" noise when i start the car and it keeps making that sound while on the road. all suggestions i will take.

welcome to the forum. Have you tried a regular muffler shop ( not Midas ) to see if they have a generic replacement. Or go to Mag auto parts, member on this forum. or go to automotiveparts.com and see what they are selling for at a discount.

Be careful with those aftermarket cats especially a generic one size fits all. On a 99 anything. it my cost you twice do to catalytic inefficiency. Some cars are picky to say the least. You want to make sure its at least a direct fit. That's my advice to you.
