Replaced stereo and now A/C has no functionality - 2003 EX

Replaced stereo and now A/C has no functionality - 2003 EX
I had a friend remove my "no display" stereo and replace it with a Metra kit and a new stereo.
The Metra A/C controls do not function. It would not program. I do not know what happened to cause this.
I did discover that my friend blew out the cigarette lighter fuse, but no other fuses were blown. The new stereo works fine, including the steering wheel adapter control.
What could be the cause and solution to this?
I have ordered another Metra kit, thinking it could have been bad, but have not installed it yet.
