Default 03 civic egr code problem

Keep getting po401 code which is the egr code. I've had my mechanic clean and replace the egr valve, but unfortunately the service engine light keeps coming on with this same code. I'm $300 in, what else can he do to fix the problem? Vehicle runs fine.

He said he just cleaned the intake side of it. He also pulled the radiator hoses off that connect to the termostat and cleaned that as well, not sure what that would have to do with the egr?

This mechanic has had this civic 4 different times, for a total of one month. Every time i drive it off, the light comes back home. Finally, he told me if it came back on he would give me my money back, which is what happened.

I think I may take to a Honda dealership next, probably going to pay a little more, but atleast they may can fix the problem.

there's literally two bolts that hold on the egr why would you pay a shop to do this it would take 15 minutes to do yourself. but anyway if the cleaning of the egr itself didn't work you could have bigger problems like this

I know it has 2 bolts, but do you have to take the valve cover off to get to those bolts? I cant seem to get to the bolts with the ratchet and extension cleanly.

true, true.....I took the whole air box off it including the battery to get to those bolts, but I still couldn't get to the bolts with a regular ratchet.
