2000 Accord EGR system clogging
I have a 2000 Accord V6. The check engine light is on, and I found out it's the EGR valve. Apparently it's a known problem and there is a TSB (#011001) for the EGR system clogging. Unfortunately, I'm 3,000 miles over the 80,000 mile extended warranty for this particular problem. Honda sells a "kit" to remedy the problem for $85. One of the techs told me that the intake manifold needed to be removed and a new hole drilled in it. It's 3 hours of labor at $92/hr, so it's going to cost me at least $360 to fix this problem.
My question is, does anyone know if you really need to remove the intake manifold? Has anyone ever attempted this themselves? Is it really that big of a job? Should another mechanic be able to get a hold of the TSB information, or does only Honda have access to that?
Thanks
Jim
