08 Civic -- driver's side door won't close
I had a very strange problem happen to me yesterday. I was able to open my car door, but not able to shut it! At first, I thought I had left a seat buckle in the door jamb, but I didn't. I could not shut the door!
I called AAA and the tow truck driver had to jimmy the door lock mechanism in order to shut the door so I could drive it to the garage. The driver then followed me to the garage and then I was able to get out of the car. But I still was unable to shut the door! The tow truck driver wasn't sure, but he thought it could be that the door lock motor had busted. I have never heard of such a thing!
The car is sitting in the shop now. What do you think it could be? I hope it doesn't cost a lot to repair this.
My car has 37,133 miles, so it is out of warantee. I am very disappointed that something like this would happen to a car with not that many miles on it. I had owned a 1999 Civic, which was the best car I've ever owned. It went for 165,000 miles before dying.

Welcome to the forum,so this car does have electric locks right? If so I would think the latch is closing before it catches the striker. It may have something to do with the anti theft feature. The mechanic may be able to simply reprogram the lock system.

Hi everyone:
Just a quick update -- the shop repaired it yesterday. The cost was only $40.00! What the mechanic told me was this -- there is a plastic part that Honda put in the door so to keep the metal latch from rusting. The plastic came apart and was getting jammed up in the latch.
An easy fix for sure, but he suggested that I contact Honda as he felt that it was a design flaw of some kind.
