Alright I have 1997 Civic 1.6L and it is having real problems lately. When it is cold and i try to start it it starts but then runs a little rough and dies then i start again and it will idle ok. Usually starts right up warm and runs just fine, but today I drove it to the store went in for about an hour and then came out to leave and the car was hesitant to start, after about four 3 second cranks the thing finally started but wanted to die really bad until I gave it some gas. Then about three miles down the road it started to shutter anytime I pushed the gas peddle. Then I stopped at a stop light and it was trying really hard to die, then when I took off it was super slow to accelerate and was shuttering really bad. The engine light came on during this and I made it home. What could it be?????

 

are the lights in the car dim? ie: the power seems low. I had a '90 Accord that had something similar to this and the problem was thealternator was acting up. I replaced the alternator and never had the issue again. if the lights and all other power seem alright, then I'm at a loss.
