96 Civic EX idle and brake
Just bought the car 5 months ago and am feeling discouraged. I already replaced the alternator, timing belt, water pump, thermostat, breather filter, charged the battery, 4 wheel alignment, plugs and wires twice, synthetic blend oil change.
But just recently the idle has started acting crazy. When stopped the idle stays around 800rpm but drops when I press the brake to about 400rpm. I release the brake and it jumps to 1200rpm and then back to 800rpm. Every time I press and release the brake the idle bounces in this way. Plus there is white smoke coming out the tail pipe in intervals.
I'm not an expert but I am hands on and functional with the proper instructions. Appreciate any help I can get.

Also, my rear defrost doesn't work. It worked when I bought the car but not since. The radio doesn't get reception either but I read somewhere that they may be linked. I figured I could just install an external antenna but it only solves one problem.
I'm just full of good news but I'm hoping someone out there can lead me in the right direction.

Haven't heard back but got good advice from a mechanic friend. After making all the changes listed above, I pulled off everything from the air filter to the throttle valve. Sprayed it all with brake cleaner and dried with a rag. I sprayed cleaner on a new rag and wiped as far as I could reach inside the intake manifold. Changed the fuel filter too and added oil treatment for smoke to the motor.
Results: no more idle issues but still a little white smoke. I still need help with the radio reception and defroster if anyone knows.

white smoke usually indicates a bad head gasket as for the defroster check the fuse if thats good check the connection on the window with a volt meter also look for damaged areas repair if need be http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars...enance/4221212 as for the antenna first check the back of the radio for a proper connection its a 96 rite so the actual antenna is on the roof near the drivers door it should either pull out via motor or manually. alot of people take them out and use a plastic delete cap to cover the hole for aesthetic purposes.
