civic clicking noise when turning
hi people just brought a old 97 civic hatchback and there is a clicking noise when turning,
have had a look and the cv joint outer casing on both sides have no tears or brakes and no grease over the place,
when checking these i gave the drive shafts a little shake and the front drivers side has the slightest of play but the other moves a bit more around 1cm of play is this the cv joint or the whole driveshaft?
many thanks will

Your CV joints need to be replaced - They can be taken apart and repacked if nothing is broken or chipped, but with the cost of labour it is generally cheaper just to change the whole shaft.
I don't believe the joints can slip. If they slip the ***** inside are broken and you will not go anywhere. Contrary to popular belief you can drive a long while with them if the boot is not broken and they are still full of grease. We live up north and the cold used to cause the boots to break, and we used to drive around town until they were changed in the spring. They were a bit noisy, but never broke.
Took about 3/4 hr a side to change the complete shaft.
