Default head gasket issues(noob)

00 honda civic dx 1.6l4 sohc automatic

About a two weeks ago i had a check engine light come on, and when i started the car to let it warm up thick white smoke appeared out of the exhaust. Now before all of that i had been replacing coolant a lot. The car only gets hot when the coolant is low and it runs smooth as ever when i was driving it. Now today i took my car for a diagnostic and the people at the shop was telling me that the plugs have siezed up and are swollen as well. They are sayinng that if i fix just the head gasket i have a 50/50 chance of it working or not working my question to you guys is should i fix the gasket or just get a new engine? I just don't know if the shop is trying to get extra money by teling me get a new engine or if i can just replace the head and it be okay.

you may have a better option with a good low milage engine. some have 30-90 day warranty after the engine is received. check with ebay. a salvage yard will sell parts of the car of your year, you can email them and ask if they have engines. try to stay away from japan engines, they are not the exact same and have japan tuning parts, no converted over. northamerican built Hondas have different engines used for your car.
