Default Need 2nd Opinion on repair quote

I have a 1998 civic with about 140k miles. Just found out that I have a rear main seal leak and will cost about $500.

Other than some minor things, the car runs like a dream so I am hesitant to upgrade to a newer model (no pun intended). However, this quote is about a third of the value of my car.

Leaves me in a couple places:
1. Let it go - put some cardboard down in the driveway, check oil more frequently and keep on truckin'
2. Fix it - if this is the case, does $500 sound right?
3. Sell it and upgrade

Any feedback is helpful. Thanks!

hi, first things first, even if you would upgrade do you have any idea what you would upgrade to? how much money can you egt out of the civic you have and what is your current budget to upgrade those are all important questions you need to answer before you take any further steps. why would you sell your car if it runs so good IF you don't have the budget to upgrade to something better. hope i helped a little

Take it somewhere else for another opinion,I have seen valve cover leaks mistaken for rear seal problems.
