I ran thru a large puddle yesterday and my engine shut down. I have a cold air in take & obviously water was sucked it. I removed intake & finally got the engine to restart after about 20 minutes. At first the check engine light was blinking & stopped. I go the car home & turned it off. A few hrs later I came back to reconnect intake & check to see how it was running & now my check engine light is on & wont turn off.. what can I do.. I go some fuel additative that said it will help take water out of engine & I also put in a oil additative & will change oil today.. but will that turn the light off??

 

apparently the light stays on until it has been reset by the main dealer... a guy that worked for honda told me that, but that wasnt the case with my civic! but it might be for different, more seriously problems such as water getting sucked into the engine... mine was just that my oxygen sensor had been disconnected, the light went off once it had been reconnected.

 

disconnect the battery for like 10 minutes so the computer can reset. i did that before and it worked on my old car, its worth a shot anyways.

 

I replaced the battery cords on my engine when it got wet and ruined them. It was hard to tell what the problem was initially but the moisture caused rotting and the only option was replacement. If all else fails..
