Default oil problem

well within a 3000 mile oil change interval i had to add 2 extra quarts of oil and i noticed on the oil pan closest to the transmission its a little wet where it looks like some oil may have leaked out. I need to know if thats the possible cause of the oil going down so fast or if there might be something wrong an internal problem draining the oil? possibilities and help are appreciated.

possibles: oil pan leak, check the ground for oil puddle, eng using oil, check compression, oil leaking through valve guides, check valve guide bushings, what kind of milage do you have on the car.

the car doesn't have any oil puddles at all. it's just moist on the transmission side of the oil pan. the top right corner of the valve cover looks like there's oil residue on it. does that have something to do with it maybe?

Hey dahuckman15 If your car has no puddle under the engine, only moist on the side with oil, perhaps the engine is using oil bad, 120k miles is not much for a civic and should not be consuming this much oil. Have a friend follow you on the fwy/hwy and watch the exhaust pipe as you drive, and find out when they see a lot of smoke coming out of the tail pipe. Also if you can, take the valve cover off and see if the top end of the engine is clogged up with oil sludge. check your pvc valve for proper operation. I am surprised 2 qts of oil in 3k miles.......

how do i check for proper pcv valve operation? how do check compression? i know there's a compression gauge that is inserted into the spark plug holes but i don't know if anything needs to be disconected to test it.

http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/c...t/comptest.php or go to autozone.com, sign in, look under repair and compression check, also may have pvc valve, you may have to view this under an older year honda. this site will usually give you pictures and instructions to doing a compression check. Go to majestichonda.com and look up the pvc for yor car and its location, then take it off check for proper operation a (valve inside should rattle a bit when shaken ) and clean.
