Default 2000 accord trans. problem, plus oil leaks!

new here! i just bought a 2000 accord v6 with auto trans, 143k miles. its loaded with leather sunroof power everything, body and interior in great shape. i thought i was getting a good deal on a work car for $2800. well, when i first test drove the car i wasnt experiencing anything other than what the seller was telling me about (front rotors and ps pump whine).

and just my luck, im driving it to work the very next day and the transmission was very sluggish coming out of first gear...and the check engine like decides to come on. i drive it to advance auto to scan it, and sure enough, code p0780 pops up, shift malfunction problem. from the research ive looked up over the past few days, there are a few solenoids that i can try replacing (that cost $500 new), and also drain and fill the trans fluid a few times. has anyone experienced this and what have they tried to fix the issue...?

and to add to that, i get under the car today while im changing out the pads and rotors, and i see oil everywhere. between the motor and trans, by the oil pan, oil pan bolt, and from both valve covers (rear valve covers is causing it to burn off the exhaust causing it to smoke). it looks like i bought a nightmare.....

Welcome in,I had a problem not long ago with my trans not shifting properly and a fluid change solved that so I would try that first. As for the leak it sounds like you pinpointed the area, change out the gasket, easy job.

do you have a lemon law. buying a used car is always a gamble thats why most people who buy used cars have them inspected by a certified mechanic first. its sad but people just can't be trusted as you found out the hard way. get the gaskits replaced drain and fill the trans and pray the tranny doesn't start slipping.

I'm not sure where he lives but Lemon laws in my state don't apply to used cars.

thanks for responses...we do have a lemon law in texas but i believe they are only on new cars or at least cars bought from a dealership. i got mine off craigslist..

i drained and refilled the trans fluid today and seems like there is no difference. i wouldnt mind replacing the recommended solenoids, except for one - they look like they already have been replaced with junkyard parts (infamous yellow mark), and two- they cost close to 500 bucks new!
