Tachometer on new Civic LX 2013?

Tachometer on new Civic LX 2013?
My mother just purchased a new Civic LX automatic. The first thing I was confused about was the tachometer. It takes up the most space on the dash, and it's the most useless.
Is it programmable to change it or anything?
