trouble with engine identification
i have a 99 civic ex which i know comes with a d16y8 vtec but i dont have a vtec head and i was told that my engine wasn't a d16y8 how do i find out for myself it says d16y7 on the camshaft pulley. is that it? and what all would i need to make it a true vtec?

welcome to the forum, check your engine block, it should say d16y8, also check next to your distributor and see if there is solenoid next/around it. if all the above are there, the 99 ex in the us came with a vtec engine/head. 127hp. This is if it a stock us made civic.

your current engine is found in the 96-00 dx/vp/lx/cxhatch, compression is 9.4:1 106hp if you want a vtec, best to find the whole engine and the ecu that comes with it. now you have 127hp. may cost less.
