Ok so you can produce 600hp. And how much does your car weigh? Hondas are light and nimble little cars. So you can mod your from an $18,000 to $24,000 what do you want a cookie? If you take a your 600hp down a back road with lots of curves are you even going to touch into most of your hp. Probably not. Remember for everthing you do under the hood you are probably going to have to some things to the suspension and brakes. IF YOUR CAR CAN'T HANDLE THE HORSE POWER THEN THERE IS NO POINT. Things that can be done to the light weight civic are swapping the rear drum set up for a rear wheel disc set from an Si model or even an Acura Integra. (availble at the local salvage yard or ebay) Suspension well we would probably have to go through some of the same sources as you on that, Eibach, HKS, Intrax, etc...Adjustable damping struts are always a plus and then head ache work by swapping all the bushings with Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings. (bushings are very time consuming and can take solid day or 2 to get done.) Front and rear strut bars lower tie bar(which by the way you can get a set of cheap ones on ebay for around $50) Then rims and tires which for the most part is personal preference.

SO lets do some math!
4th or 5th gen civic in decent shape used between $1000-4000
Engine lets go ballz out and build a LS frankenstein with VTEC 300 hp all motor
For arguements sake $6000
Don't forget the tranny $1000
Poly bushing master kit $150
Adjustable damping struts all 4 corners we'll go with tokikos $400
Eibach Sportline Springs $350
Front and rear strut Bar with lower tie bar $50cheap $500expensive
Header $200
Catback exhaust $500
Cold air intake AEM $250
Rear disc brake set up $250 (depends on salvage yard)
Rims (I like 16" rims don't like pot hole fairy) $500
Tires lets go with some z rated Goodyear Eagle GT's $650
Stage 2 clutch is another $500

so for $14,200 you can have a 300hp civic and build it the way you wanted it and have all the handling and reliability of a honda not to mention the pride in knowing you did it yourself. And maybe later on you might decide to bolt on a supercharger or turbo to bump up your horses to 400 maybe more depending on what you do. Then do the Brembo big brake kit. Maybe add in some other gauges, rip out the back seat what ever.

At quit calling them JAP CARS most Japenese cars are made in the states now. Meanwhile FORDS are mostly produced in Canada or Mexico.

I have respect for this site and it's members. I am not a honda owner (my girlfriend is). I think its cool to try to make a crapload of power out of a small engine. My friend is a tuner, and has a pretty cool honda civic si, however I could take 14,200 dollars and have a 400-450hp NA home-built302 (5.0L) in my 70 ford maverick. It'd not only be able to turn on a dime, but make your mother turn a trick. Its simple math.

1970 Maverick, straight body no rust original I-6 engine: 150 bucks (yeah i bought it for 150 bucks)
Nice paint: 400 dollars, all prep and paint done at home in the garage (yealp did it)
302long-block (including over-bore to square all the cylinders up/and new cam bearings installed):400 bucks at any salvage yard... knowhow to find a salvageable core!
Recondition stock forged rods: 5 dollars a piece
Rebuild kit (includes all gaskets, bearings, piston rings, and oil pump):180
TRW flat top pistons: 400 dollars
AFR 165 cylinder heads (easy 50hp gain on a stock 302): 1300
Edelbrock Air-Gap intake manifold: 230
Roller rockers: 200
Hardened push rods: 125
Taller valve covers to clear roller rockers: 50
650 cfm speed demon: 439
Headers: flowtech ceramic: 339
Camshaft, Comp cams 280H, kit:179
Double roller timing chain: 60
Billet HEI distributor: 90
MSD Ignition: 179
Custom exhaust system: 300
Yes it can be made reliable if it is assembled correctly. An engine is only as good as the person that built it.

Engine total: 4211

Jaskson racing performance transmission w/ 2500 stall converter: 825
8" rear axle 3:55 LIMITED SLIP third member: 625

Running total:5661

front and rear sway bars: 300 for both
front springs: 120
rear springs: 120
lowering blocks: home made from nice stock, we'll say 50 bucks just to throw a value on it
cal-tracs: 430

4 wheel disc brakes (front from a mid-70s granada): 220 (rear from lincoln verseilles): 400
front spoiler: 96 dollars (yup it's functional)
rear spoiler: 120 dollars (yealp its functional too)

Polygraphite front suspension (includes leaf spring bushings): 579

total: $8946

Ameriacan cars are still in the darkages compared to Jap/ German/Italian cars.

I mean an american V6/V8 only put out 2-300 hp where as german V8 are nearing 500hp

American cars are too heavy, too soft, ugly, horrible build quality, horrible interiors and I personally would never have a mustang if someone payed me.

Ive got a Honda Crx which weighs less than 1000kg, has 180hp and cost me £3000 (probs 5500$) and would still keep up with your over priced, heavy piece of engerneering crap!

Cheers

John

ok well german/italian cars cost 4 times what mustangs cost. Face it, Hondas have nothing for around 25k that can match the mustang (new cars). my car weighs 3200lbs but its got the power to back it up, stock, you honda guys know your beat and it makes you furious, I just wish yall could admitt it.

First off.. I kinda do like picking up 50 year women in my 90 civic but thats just the way i do it. I mean theres something to be said for experience.. if you know what I'm talking about. However James I mean are you serious, just because you drive acrappy mustang doesn't make you better than us. I mean I can't drive anymore cause I lost my license because I'm not really an american. That doesn't make you better than me. I hook up with like 4 chics at the same time.
