Default Why install an aftermarket exhaust?

Why are so many people driving around in cars with aftermarket exhausts?

1) Since this mainly only occurs in 10+ year old cars, say you only have $5000 for a car, as most of us have been in that situation before... How is a $3000 car w/$2000 exhaust that makes 99.9% of people think your obnoxious, be your choice instead of a nicer car for $5000?

2) Who do these people think they are:
a) Tuners who know more than the car company and are releasing the car's true potential?
b) A baby who needs something but can't talk...so it's their form of crying for attention?
c) Ignorant and the guy who convinced them to "stance" their car recommended it?
d) Don't want to spend an extra $155* for a nice car in the future?

* average community college cost is $5,155/yr in the USA https://research.com/universities-colleges/average-cost-of-community-college

3) Should the rest of us hear that sound and think savings...since these are the people who make going out to dinner inexpensive and the thought of actually doing our own yard-work comical?

Just some thoughts as someone drives by in a crappy honda...

That sound costs them money. Some of these kids will tear our a perfectly good muffler and install these rumblers to draw attention to themselves. They don't care that most of that attention is negative. They are being COOL.

welcome to the forum. everyone has their own taste of noise. i thought long ago that glass pack mufflers were great, raising the rear end of the car was cool, tinting the windows was neat, and speeding was fast. or having wide tires was the way to stick to the road. everyone always has something they want to do and i can laugh at the noisy mufflers because they don't go fast..to each his own.
