Honda 2010 EX-L 110k miles, still runs great. I can’t find a nail in this tire when I rotate it and mark it with chalk. It can be down 4 lbs when my other tires are just one or two lbs off. Thinking the battery in the TPMS may be old? Needs replacement? I would have someone else do that.

One thing my dad would not teach me about was tires. He taught me the easy stuff for a girl.

Thank you. I always use a hand gauge and I have a portable air pressure machine. I check every two weeks.

 

In order to see if the tire has a leak, one must take the tire off the vehicle and pump air into the tire
Slightly higher pressure helps, then put the tire (wheel) in some soapy water
Look for the air bubbles. Could be a nail or even from the tire air valve?

Note: Checking the tire air pressure every two weeks will only let you know you are losing air or not
It will not tell you if there is an air leak or not. Good luck

 

Thank you so much for those good points! I am usually good at spotting nails, because we have many contractors on the roads out here, but a small one I could miss. The tires are not two years old, but I will discuss your ideas with my local mechanic.

You don't need to remove the tire to find the leak unless it's a rim leak. Use simple green and mix it 10 parts water an one part green and you only need about a cup of liquid. Just poor it over the wheel and you will see the foam from where it's leaking. I do this and use a plug to fix and never take the tire off.

 

Thank you! I do have simple green and will give it a try. Kinda like a bike tire, but larger.
