Default Extended Warranty

Good morning all! I have a 2017 Civic LX Coupe with 17,100 and coming up on three years of ownership, which also means that warranty coverage is ending. I've been doing some research and would like to know should I purchase an extended warranty. So far there are no major repairs (and I think that there shouldn't be with a newer car) other than the AC unit blows hot air. I've received from Honda Division a letter regarding A/C condenser leaks warranty extension, so I know I do need to bring into the dealer to service this problem. But, getting back to the extended warranty, I've never have purchased on my other vehicles an VSC and the quote I got from the dealership is well over $2000 that seems really expensive to me. What do you all think.

if you feel confident that you know how to fix anything on your car like an asa tech, then don't purchase the warranty. if you don't know much about how to fix the car, and don't have a lot to pay for these new electronic parts, and want a peace of mind, purchase the warranty. but shop around and find out what the warranty covers. some warranty cover nothing much than eng, trans, diff. others cover everything except ware items, tires, wiper blades, brake shoes, spark plugs, plug wires... Read and understand any warranty you decide to purchase. also you can bargain with the honda dealership on their warranty. try to get it at cost. about 1400 - 1600 some are less. call around on warranties and find the most coverage with the least expense.

There is no telling what the future holds for you and your vehicle.
So, we have to go by what we know and what we think we know
Honda is a good car company that mostly build reliable cars.
Their re-sale value certainly shows that.
Of course no car company is perfect and no car is perfect forever.
As ACmech52 said, it is up to you and your skill set to determine if you need to buy an extended warranty
And to learn what that warranty will cover.

On average, cars will need more servicing after they reach their fifth year of use.
Some people sell their vehicle before all the headaches set in
Others take it all in stride. Knowing that there will be some cost associated with an older car.
For me, I question who decided to use a timing belt on engines.
Every three to four years, some times five, the timing belt needs to be changed
And with it goes anywhere from $500 to $1000 dollars to get the job done.
Of course, cheaper if you can do it yourself. Why have a built in cost??

Sorry for my rant.

avisitor: timing belt for an easier to make a quiet, more efficient engine w/ timing belt, no oil lube, not worry of oil pressure. less expensive to produce. yes i agree 100% as to built in cost. not hard to change belt, but a real pain in the _____!!

Umm, know nothing about how to repair/fix cars, but thanks for the vote of confidence. Also, I didn't mention I'm a 71 yo lady however, I can change a tire, and fill the window washer fluid, that's the extent of my car repair knowledge :-). I much appreciate your answering my question and definitely will take all replies into consideration in making my final decision.

Again, thank you!

Thank you Avisitor for your input. I know absolutely nothing about cars repairs however, found your comment about the 5 year mark interesting and will use that as factor in my decision about whether to purchase an extended warranty contract now or later. Actually, I've been thinking of holding onto this car for another year and then trade for a new one...of course, all depends on what the he.. our economy will look like in the coming year.

Again, I appreciate your response!

I have owned several Accords and never purchased an extended warranty, i just feel these Hondas have less problems over all. My 2016 Accord has had no issues at all ,its coming up on 50K miles.

Bucwheat, thank you so much for your input as the others have advised, I will forego purchasing an extended warranty for now. I've owned only one other Civic and I totally enjoyed driving that car.

Again, I appreciate your input, have a lovely holiday weekend!
