Don't shoot, I'm friendly.
Hi, new boy here, looking for a bit of advice, help or maybe even a bigger hammer than the one I have...
I have a Honda 9.9 outboard, it's an old motor, probably a late 90's or early 2000 model.
It was running well and only been used on English canals, so no salt water.
The chap who owned it did a service and (for reasons not clear) decided to stop the motor by shorting out ' a wire'
Since then it has not run. I have done what tests I can and can not find a fault.
The motor came to me with the remote cable hacked off, so only cable ends to work with.
I suspect the regulator/rectifier to be at fault because last owner told me he had bought and fitted new CDI and Coil.
The R/R I have is a 6 wire type and is now obsolete. I can get a 5 wire but am not sure about the wire placement to do a conversion.
Also, everything I can find about them talk about 3 yellow wires, mine has no yellow wires
What it does have is 2x grey wires, 2x black wires (one with an orange tag on) and 2x white wires, 1 with a black stripe.
Can anyone identify this please, and, more to the point, suggest a way out of my problem?
Thank you
George (Oletimer)
