Warning & instrument issues
Good morning, I recently purchased a used dinghy with a Honda BF40A outboard on it that has remote controls on the center console. It had been run in salt water, so I flushed and cleaned all the passages I can get to and replaced the water pump. It is now peeing like it should.
However, when I turn the key on, I’m not getting a buzzer nor is the oil pressure light coming on. The tachometer seems to be stuck on 1000 RPM. I’ve tested the oil pressure sensor and it seems good, the water temp sensor also has the proper resistance. It runs great and since these all seem like they could be related, I was wondering if anyone had an idea on a good place to start trouble shooting. I have checked the tachometer and it has 12v between the ign terminal and ground. Between the sensor terminal and ground it reads 10.63v. The manual shows a remote control box, but what I seem to have is a series of plugs branching to the various areas: ign. sw., warning lights, buzzer, gauges, etc. of course all of this is inside the tiny console with approx an 8x8 access opening. If I have to, I think I can take the console off to get better acces, but I’m trying to avoid that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Blue Skies,
Dave
