im new to the tuner scene i was wondering if anybody could tell me what the best motor to put in my 1996 honda civic dx hatchback would be

 

welcome to the forum. I would suggest you get Honda by Kojima, these books will give you a great idea of what to put into the civic. I personally would like to put the k-20 engine in for max power, but keep it a sleeper.
Import tunners could give you a better idea.I hope other members on this forum who have already done good mods to their civic can give you better tips/ideas.
