i believe that the k20a2 is the most ballanced engine for the buck. I think its about getting a nice meaty powerband that revs sky high. the reason why you cant rev as high with a k24 is because of the stroke length. so inherently the k20a will spin faster (and this is the "soul" of the K, the high revving NA it was meant for) Also you could get a stroker kit from toda, or crower and make it into a 2.3L that is rated up to 10k rpm. Upgrade your valvetrain and rev away. Add a supercharger if you must, but overall its a nice happy medium.

its cheapest to start with a k20a2 since its readily available and any mods you do to it, will easily outperform the type R which is rarer and harder to come by. What makes a type R is its chassis and not its engine anyway.

i think the k24 is nice for a heaver car or for RWD, but the k20 has enough potential to smoke any FWD drivetrain where daily traction will ultimately decide your speed.
