2004 Odyssey timing belt
#2
Hello,
Although it is plausible that over time the timing belt material has degraded and therefore necessitates replacement, the official replacement interval as per the Odyssey Owner's Manual is 105,000 miles. So your dealer is most likely trying to scam you.
Here's what I would do: inspect the condition of your current timing belt. Look for fraying, cracks or any other tall tale sign of excessive wear. If you notice that it has to be replaced then buy the belt (OEM part #14400-P8A-A02) and take your Ody to an independent Honda shop for the repairs

Thank you for your reply and advice. My owners manual does say 105,000 miles OR 72 months whichever comes first. How do I check the belt, I thought it was 'buried' behing the water pump and completely hidden behing a cover???...Thats why the cost is $600 and up...
