Thumbs up Sliding door, passenger side, no worky.

Model::
2008 Touring, Mobility

Cause:
Corroded terminals (3-4 of them) in the body side plug of the "CSS" harness. This is the harness with the segmented support, between the door and body. The plug assembly sat on the sub floor, and lived in a salty puddle much of the time. The door is misadjusted on the bottom, such that there is a one inch gap at the bottom, allowing splashing water to come onto the subfloor. the corrosion was so significant that a few of the pins were gone, only a splotch of bright green power was left, even the conductor was corroded into the insulation..

Symptoms:
Door would work in different ways, like not open or shut, pop and stall, do nothing. Later on it pretty much would not respond to any command from any position. Using a scanner I could actuate the door without a problem. I got communication failures every time. Also all the Inputs and Outputs of the door controller, as monitored by the scanner, would show "not available" simultaneously, It would do this for about 5 seconds, then return to normal, every half minute or so, randomly.

Fix:
  • Replaced the door controller.
  • Replaced the CSS harness.
Extracted pins from the old CSS harness to replace the pins in the plug on the floor. I left a few inches of wire on the extracted pins so I could butt splice onto the damaged wire/pin combos. If I had tried to crimp on new pins I would not have had enough slack in the wiring. Plus I did not have the pins or the right tool to crimp them anyway. Extraction is best done with a long pin, like a tee pin or long stick pin to press on the white plastic latch as seen from the pins end of the plug. You have to open the secondary lock of the plug casing first, else the pin latches can not be pushed aside.

I plan to adjust the door so that it will seal better. There is a half inch spacing bolt at the base of the door for gap adjustment, but it is rusty so it will take some doing to repair.

Also I jammed some small bubble wrap under the plug, suspending it up off the floor where puddles form.

Not A Fix:
(But maybe something that was needed anyway)
Previously, with no improvement, I had removed and cleaned the lock actuator and replaced the limit switches.

Note:
A scanner was not needed, and actually sent me off in the wrong direction. But was an interesting experience.

I am fully confident that this is a complete fix, and the cause identified.

Cost:
About $500 for the harness and controller.

Recommendation for Others:
(Someone with a Sliding Door that will not respond)
Open and inspect the aforementioned plug in particular. If corroded it will be easy to see.
