I recently had a flat tire and when the tire was removed to be patched, the tech told me the sensor was "just floating loose" in the wheel well. It appears to have been broken off. Where is the sensor attached and should this be covered on my warranty?

 

It should be attached to the valve stem,Could be the tire person broke it upon removing the tire,they are pretty tough to just fall off.
