Default 2022 Pilot rear end noise

Just bought a 2022 Pilot and noticed there is a thumping noice in rear when going over bumps. It almost sounds like something is loose and hitting the underneath. Checked the spare tire and it’s tight. Researched on internet and saw people with 2017/2018 model years were complaining of same type noise but didn’t see any fixes or what dealer did to correct. Haven’t seen any threads from people with this generation complaining of this noise. Just curious if anyone with same model year as mine had the same issue and if so was it corrected and by what measures. I do have a service appt setup but wanted to go in with some ammunition before hand. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

welcome to the forum. You might want to document more info on that noise in the rear. straight or turning left or right. over a speed bump over rough roads, up or down a driveway during a turn or straight. also allow the dealer up to a couple of days to find the noise. my 16 HR-V took 3 times, and 6 days total to fix a loose torque link nut.

Thanks for the info. Noise is apparent on any road of sizable bumps. Doesn’t matter if I’m going straight down the road or on a curve. Hit a bump and the loud thumping noise is heard. Did take it into dealer and they claim they checked and found nothing wrong and even took both my vehicle and another 2022 Pilot on same roads and both had same noise. My road had been patched and has several dips and bumps and the noise is heard consistently. Today was going up my road and had all the windows down with radio off and going over several of those bumps. and heard the typical noice I’ve been witnessing but also heard another noise that soundsed more like something metal was loose. I’m going to take it to another dealer.

Default Same here

Just bought mine 2 months ago and the noise bugs me ! I also thought it was the fuel tank but there is no movement from tank ? I haven’t taken to dealership yet because I know they will probably just say they couldn’t find anything or didn’t hear the noise. I’m also thinking it might be from the 20” tires being stiff?

Default Resolution to rear end thumping noise.

A rattle developed in the left rear along with the loud thumping. After a few trips to dealer finally ended up working with master mechanic. He actually spent time diagnosing problem by utilizing a tool/device called a ChassisEAR which he connected to several areas of chassis to help amplify the noise. Ended up replacing both the upper and lower control arms and that resolved the thumping noise. The vehicle was like what you would have expected with a brand new car.

My Pilot has continentals which I hate. I think those tires are stiff with no give. About tempted to replace with Michelins and try to sell the continentals.

Default That’s good to know

Thanks for the update I will let the dealership know what to look for! Also I noticed lots of rattling noise from rear bumper will have them look at that along with my touchscreen pixelating!

my 2022 Honda Pilot is 2 months old, I have the same loud thumping, I brought it to the dealer, they told me it is the “Nature of the beast”.. if I knew that I would have bought another type car…I love the car except for the noise, and it is loud.

I have a similar noise in my 2023. Did you have this problem resolved?
