Default Loss of Power

I have a 2006 CR-V diesel. Most of the time, the engine runs ok. Sometimes the VSA light and the engine management lights come on and the engine shuts down to emergency power, about tickover speed. If I leave the car for about half an hour, the VSA light goes off and the car starts and runs normally, until the next time it happens.
The car has been to a Honda dealer and put onto his diognostic machine. The machine codes said the problem was the throttle potentiometer and a low voltage. The potentiometer was changed, it didn't make any difference.
Without asking Honda to do any more very expensive checks, has anyone any idea what the problem might be.

vehicle sability assist. check to see if you have a dirty egr valve, clean it and recheck to see if the engine shuts down to emergency power.
