MAP sensor screws

MAP sensor screws
I went to replace the MAP sensor in my 2000 CR-V, discovered some kind of solid substance blocking the screws, probably factory installed. My question: will heat from a heat gun soften this stuff, or must I cut the screws off and replace them?
