Default 78 Hawk CB400 advice

I'm a new motorcycle owner and my bike won't start!! I cleaned gas out of the air filter, changed spark plugs, gas and battery and can't get it to start even though it is turning over. Any advice from someone with experience in this matter?!? Please let me know, I want to ride!

Default RE: 78 Hawk CB400 advice

Give it a shot of Gumout carb cleaner down the carbs and see if it'll run off that. Carefull for backfires because it'll light the cleaner so dont soak the hell out of it. 1 second spray down each carb is more then enough to see if it'll fire up. If not, you have an ignition problem (or some major mechanical failure). If it starts then dies you have a fuel/carb problem. Remember, the choke only works with the throttle CLOSED on most motorcycles unless it uses a butterfly type choke. Good luck
