Element MT clutch? transmission? or both?
2008 Element EX Manual Transmission 260K miles original clutch
Hi, hoping for some diagnostic help. Clutch pedal went to the floor and stayed there. Figured it was the clutch hydraulic system on the E. Nursed the car home by synchronizing my shifts without the clutch - not fun. I replaced the complete clutch hydraulic system - all lines, master, slave, nuts & bolts all new from Honda (except the slave which was from Advanced Auto - the maker being Luk). Installed and bled system. Clutch worked fine, pedal returned properly, started the car and was able to shift into all gears smoothly at a stand still. But there are a couple of problems.
1) The car is making a loud clicking noise which keeps pace with the engine speed - increase the engine RPMs and the clicking increases in unison. Sounds like it may be related to the area where the clutch. pressure plate, T/O bearing live. The car will drive forward when placed it in first gear and the clutch pedal is let up - when this is done you will hear clicking also but I am not sure if it is the same clicking as in neutral or not, but seems to be coming from the same area.
2) I can shift into reverse but when I let up on the clutch pedal the engine strains and will stall if I continue to let the pedal up. The reverse gear seems to be locked up and will not allow the car to move in the reverse direction. If I place the car in neutral, with the engine off, I am able to "easily" push the car in the reverse direction, like you would be able to do under normal circumstances.
I am not sure exactly what is going on. The clutch hydraulic system seems to be working perfectly so I don't suspect that is part of the problem. I was expecting to replace the clutch and related works soon so I would not be surprised if that were part of the issue. I am hoping my tranny isn't messed up.
I will be glad for any help you can give me.
Sorry for such a long post.
Thanks
Col

welcome to the forum. i would just change the clutch pressure plate, throw out bearing and the pilot bearing. you did not have any problems until hydro clutch sys was changed. but if in doubt since you'll have the trans out, take it to a trans shop to see if the reverse is locked out or it the shifter was stuck.
