Default 04 CVT rebuild

I got a great deal on an 04 civic hybrid with a blown CVT. The pusher belt is in a million little pieces. I am thinking about trying to rebuild it myself, but I am struggling to find parts and information about it. Are any of you familiar with these? It is looking like I might be better off just throwing a used tranny into it, but I want to put a little more effort into the rebuild idea first. From what I can tell, the transmission code is SLYA and most rebuild kits do not come with the belt. The pullys that the belt runs on are a little bit scarred as well. is that a serious issue? Thanks in advance for any help that you all can give. BTW I am an experienced mechanic and do have a pretty good idea of what I am getting into here.

welcome to the forum. i have watched several utube video's on overhaul of the segmented belt used on the cvt. it is not difficult, just time consuming, they all suggested using new parts in rebuilding the segmented belt. if the runs are scarred, they should be replaced. i believe the rebuild kits do not come with the belt because if no damage is done to the belt, it can be reused, but in your case you'll probable have a few damaged segments. best to get a new one unless they have rebuilt belts for less. and install it in the correct direction please.

Thanks for the welcome and the feedback! The one clutch pack looks like it has seen some heat as well and I found a good deal on a used tranny so I am going that way. I appreciate the information though. If nothing else, I am smarter for it!

good used tranny is good, make sure to check for flakes in the trans oil, and use only Honda trans fluid. smart move, less labor too. if you have the trans oil pan off, use care if using rtv to seal the pan. the small screen can get clogged with small pieces of sealant. there is a screen about the size of your thumb nail.

So I got a used tranny and threw it in. I filled the oil just above the full line then put it in reverse and drive without moving. I then topped it off and tried to drive it and it wouldn't move. I plan to change the filter and oil tomorrow, but I am wondering if there is anything else to check. Especially curious if there is something that I need to do to bleed it. Thanks!

were there any electrical lines hooked up to it going to the ecu, the ecu may have to relearn the transmission. i don't know of any bleeding needed on the transmission.

There are some electrical connections. Is there anything that I would need to do to make that happen?

usually disconnecting the battery for a few minutes then hooking it back up may clear the ecu to start fresh. where did you get the used transmission, is there any warranty for it.

Ok I will disconnect it while I change the oil and see if it snaps out of it. I got it at a scrap yard and it does have a warranty.
