01 Accord Clock Project
So my digital clock has been broken for the last 6 months or so and I thought instead of spending $50-60 on a new one I would turn the clock into something... cooler.
I'm thinking of incorporating a dock sort of thing for my iPod nano. I have a wire that goes from the deck to the iPod and I can just run the wire up there and create sort of docking station for it. Its not as cut and dry as it seems but it should be very doable and will look tons better than a blank clock.
So far it seems like I would have to remove all the insides of the clock without disturbing the emergency light switch. I would then cut carefully around the clock and buttons that are associated with them and it looks like it should be big enough to hold the iPod nano securely. My dilemma is the mounting. So far the easiest way is cut a slot on top that I can just slide in but that would look like crap. Another way would be to create a mechanism that would open it like an old school cassette player. That sounds best but tricky.
Any thoughts on how I can do this more efficiently without anything too complicated. Mounting seems to be the only issue thus far. Tomorrow I will go and take measurements to see how nicely it can fit.

Here are some pics of the process I went through. I live in SF where the sun is scarce so its not that big of a deal. Plus if I leave the car I put it somewhere else or take it with me.
