Default 2000 Accord, Broken, Advice

I bought this 2000 honda accord, and it's got these problems now:
  • rear passenger door impact dented
  • taillight busted
  • radiator needs replacement
  • new distributor
To get it running again would cost $800. It has 220k miles. I paid 1500 for it. Do you think it's worth putting money into it to get it running, then I'd be left with a beat up car that runs, or trying to sell it as-is? I don't know.

Got to ask ...
What would it cost to get another one that is a daily driver??
Compare that to what you have now??

I don't understand exactly. You think it's worth it to fix it up?

Yeah you're probably right.

Any tips on getting the most you can scrap value?

That depends on if you can store junk car and get rid of what is left over.
Alternator, power steering pump, window glass, seats, etc can be sold on E-bay
But, all that depends on how much effort you want to put into it.

A 2000 Honda is a rust bucket if it lives in the salt belt
And usually not worth fixing up if it is just going to fall apart from the rust.
Or make it impossible to fix cause you can't get the bolts out to replace a apart.

I don't see where a rad and distributed cost $800, buy the rad and dis and install it yourself,if you buy another used car you are most likely going to have problems with that also.

Hows the rest of it? Engine, Trans, interior, suspension? My daughter ran my 01 coupe into the back of another car and most guys said junk it. But the engine trans and interior are excellent, even after 221K. I was able to take the panels off the front (bumper cover, hood, fenders) and with standar tools and a come along, was able to straighten out the engine cage. Got an aftermarket hood, put it all back together. 4 hours on a Saturday. I had the advantage of owning the car since 25K, so know all about it and at the time thought it was worth the fix.

So, if you have confidence in the engine, trans, and suspension, I'd fix it.

i bought a 99 accord in may 2018 ,paid $ 2500 for it had 76k original miles...runs like a champ.no rust anywhere on this car and I live in the rust belt..needed a rear bumper cover $ 35 a few plastic interior trim pieces $8, a driver side door panel,$10 a temp gauge sending unit $5 all from my local u pull it yard and the best part was all the right color ,did oil, trans fluid change and 4 tires everything cost me under $400 tires being the most expensive ,the car has a few minor dents in two of the doors but it really doesn't bother me much at all....maybe down the road I take care of the dents by the way the guy that owned it told me he used linseed oil to keep it rust free...painted it on underside and sprayed it in the doors etc...must work cause like it said no rust anywhere on this car...so if you buy parts from a u pull it yard you can save a lot over dealer bought parts
