I currently have a Honda Accord Euro 2006 luxury (4cyl, 2.4L, 6 speed manual) (199k kms) that has 'zero' compression on cylinder 1 and was hoping to get a second opinion on what to do next.
The 'check engine' light appeared as I was driving on the free way at 110 km/hr and the car began violently shaking. After checking, I found the oil level to be really low (which I found unusual as the low oil light had not appeared). However, the car was still able to driven gently.
I took it to a mechanic, who thinks that potentially the timing chain had jumped and damaged something inside. He said that without taking off the head gasket he wouldn't be able to exactly pin-point the cause and extent of damage/repairs needed. He also note that it was strange that cylinders 2,3 & 4 all continued to have high compression. He estimated a minimum rough cost of $3000 - $3500 (AUD) and the car is worth about $7000-$8000.
I've since drove it home with fuel injector 1 unplugged and after a couple days the car no longer starts.
Interested to know your opinions, experiences and thoughts on this problem. Also curious to know whether it's worth fixing if there's a market for these cars?
Sounds like you need a rebuild or a replacement engine. A leak down test may be in order to determine the reason for loss of compression but regardless it's not going to be an easy fix.
