Default anyone with an '04 civic? got a question before I buy one

I just looked at an 04 civic in really good condition. When looking at it though I noticed something I thought was really weird. When looking at the wheel wells, you can see all the way through the car...the back of the engine, etc. The wheel wells are "open" in a large area behind the wheel. It seems strange to me. It looked like thats how it is supposed to be...is that right?? If so...doesn't excessive water get in there, or snow during the winter time?

Thanks for any help. I guess if nobody knows I'll have to try to find another 04 civic to look at.

Thanks

welcome to the forum. I've got an 02 and no you are not suppose to see through the wheel to the other side. I you go to hondaautomotiveparts.com and go to fender, you are suppose to have splase guards or wheel well guards to prevent water/snow, rocks etc from entering the engine compartment area. The car you are looking at may have been in a bad front end collision and the whole front clip has been replaced. Don't be in a rush to buy this one, check it out good, and get a carfax to assist, you can obtain a car fax on line free. just type in carfax, you should be able to find about 3 free sites.
