Default High Octane Gas for Honda Civic Hatchback Sport/Sport Touring?

I have a question for Honda Civic experts in the community.

I noticed that the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring recommends high octane gas. I had a few questions around this:

1) Why high octane when it has the same engine as the other trims?

2) Will it have any negative impacts if regular octane gas is used?

3) Will there be any negative impacts if you sometimes fill up with regular gas and sometimes with high octane gas?

Thanks experts!

welcome to the forum. 1. higher octane may be due to higher compression ratio, or turbo, or higher performance engine. 2. lower octane may cause engine knock, if climbing a hill and continuous knock, may cause engine damage ( hole in the piston, or burnt valves) 3. there is always the possibility of engine damage using lower octane than recommended. Also no warranty if lower octane used.
