Honda Civic 2015 CVT transmission failure
Hi Members!
this is my first post, so please let me know if I posted in the wrong section.
I have a situation and wanted to get some advise from experienced forum members.
My wife’s car stopped in the middle of the road. We were able to start and turn off the car, however even in Drive or Reverse, the car was not moving. The car was towed and taken to a nearest Honda service center.
Next day I was given an estimate that CVT transmission has failed and need to be replaced. Cost is ~9k. There were a few other items in the list and approx total cost of repair is ~12k.
My honda is not that old. I bought it new in 2015, and it currently has 72k miles on it. So I am a bit surprised that the entire transmission has failed.
The service advisor said that transmission fluid might not have been changed on time and could have caused the CVT to fail.
while I take my car to local oil change shops, I would imagine they would atleast call this out and would have told me during my last service that transmission fluid might be going bad and needs to be replaced. OTOH, it could totally be an oversight from my side.
i just wanted to check with the members here, if I am not getting ripped off and entire CVT could just fail and we have to replace it.
thanks in advance for the help!

Transmission failure at 118,00 miles. Consistent maintenance on the car according to schedule. I was driving on the freeway and all the lights flashed on one by one. I managed to safely get off the freeway thankfully and pulled the car into a spot. No ability to change gears or reverse. Towed to the Honda dealer. Mechanic said it was a jumble of parts inside. 8K total for replacement. My car was not listed for recalls. This is my second Honda. I was planning to buy a Honda for my next car. Now I am not sure that would be a good idea...
