Default No Crank No start

Hello, I have just got a 1990 Honda civic DX hatchback, I haven’t done anything to it yet other then drive it, I’m still trying to get the hang of a stick shift so I do stall sometimes. After driving it for about 45 min I parked it then came back a few hours later only to find out it will no longer start, when I try to start it I can see the lights turn on, a check engine light comes on for a second and the car won’t crank. I think I’ve narrowed it down to a starter motor but before doing the repair I wanted to make sure I haven’t over looked any other possible concerns.

Make sure the clutch switch is engaged before trying to crank engine
That is a safety switch to prevent cranking when clutch is out so the vehicle doesn't jump when trying to start the engine.
It is similar to a park/neutral safety switch for an automatic transmission.
Also, clean battery posts and cable terminals. Follow negative cable to chassis and clean ground contact.
Check engine ground is good? Voltage of the battery?
And, there is a wire going from the ignition switch to the start solenoid
See if there is 12 volts on it when key is in the crank position
I know it isn't an easy thing to do.
If you can try taking a hammer or mallet and lightly tap on the starter motor when trying to crank
If it brings it back for then moment then starter motor is beginning to fail.

Good luck.

Edit: Do not forget to check to see if the starter motor has power and grounds
