P1705 super mystery
1999 civic LX auto transmission general question. The neutral safety switch clearly tells the computer what gear the shifter is in. And it decides which lights to display in the dashboard Park reverse neutral etc. Now how does the computer know that this is inaccurate in order to display the p1705 error message. Well in park I can remove the neutral safety switch and slide it back and forth watch the lights change, watch the error message pop up. How does my computer know I'm not really shifting? See I've already replaced the shifter the neutral safety switch the shifting cable. Everything to do with that end of it has been replaced. It drives great until it goes into limp mode. Something on the transmission is contradicting the NSS and sending a signal to the computer that the NSS is lying. Clearly there are two components talking to the computer the NSS and the transmission itself. What part of the transmission itself is reporting back bogus info? I'm looking for another part to replace LOL running out of ideas. I've adjusted the shift cable dozens of times. drives great I can go 6 hours without an error message and then boom limp mode. Any ideas? It's not the NSS I've gone through three of them and it's not the computer I've gone through two of them
