Default Honda Dylan 125cc: scraping sound when pressing brake levers

Hi guys,

I have a 2003 Honda Dylan 125cc with currently 11,000kms on the dash (about 8,000 miles).

Bought it 2 years ago, never had an issue other than just plain servicing.

Since recently though, when I press/hold the brake lever WHILE STANDING
STILL with running engine, there is a weird scraping noise from the back
tire area. I don't think it is the brake itself. The noise is a fairly
loud and high pitched grinding or scraping sound, but I can't really locate it other than being
around the back tire. This is also where the belt and gearbox live, so
could be one of those things maybe...

Soon as I release the brake lever, the noise stops; soon as I press it, the noise is unrelenting until I release it again.

I haven't noticed it while driving but with the helmet on it is possible
I just can't hear it while driving but it is still there.

Anyone of you knowledgeable gents (or femmes) out there that have an inkling as to what this may be?

No mate. it was the starter. Though, this thread is old and hadn't ever been replied to here, so went to other forum where they led me to the starter. Grtz.
