Default 1996 Honda odyssey radiator cap. Please help

I have a 1996 Honda odyssey and one day while I was driving it across town a while ago i didn't cut it off for like 30 minutes and it was sitting at the grocery store running and on my way home i looked at the temp guage and the meter was on the H and I quickly got home and my car was smoking and the radiator cap flew off and my whole motor and battery was covered in coolant and water. So I bought a new radiator cap and put water and coolant back in and then my starter went bad. So I just got it fixed today and went to the store real quick and on the way home it started overheating again and blew the radiator cap off again and smoke was billowing out when I got home and car was covered in fluids again. Any idea what I may need to do?

welcome to the forum. sounds like your radiator may need a clean out or your head gasket has blow by.

Thermostat bad will allow your temp gauge to go up as you watch within minutes. If engine left running. You will hear explosive sounds from the water boiling in the lower block. Fill your rad with water, leave the radiator cap off. Watch your radiator cap from the bumper distance. If you hear n see the water bubbling out pretty fast from cold start. Do a compression check. When you mentioned the temp going into the red, this would mostly cause a blown head gasket. Or before you do the radiator run test. Do the compression check first.
