1999 CR-V possible engine swap
Hi all,
New to the Honda scene as I just bought my 1999 CR-V off the original owner. But anyway, the little SUV has lots of miles on it and I'm either A) contemplating rebuilding the current B20Z or B) swapping a more powerful engine into it. My question is, what engines can I swap into it that will bolt directly to the factory 5 speed manual without any modifications, if possible? I'm not looking for crazy power numbers but just enough extra power to liven the drive a little in it as it seems awful sluggish. It is AWD as well if it matters any. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I eventually may do more to it besides the engine (suspension, brakes, etc) as I've seen a modified CR-V before and the guy had it tastefully done.

welcome to the forum. not aware of what different engines with more hp can be put into your cr-v. things you can do to your current cr-v to give a little ump would be cold intake, exhaust- cat back, headers. swap to smaller wheels, lighted up the car. (not crazy)
Thanks!....and darn...was hoping maybe like a K20/K24 VTEC would bolt in....I found a company that makes a header and full exhaust for it (2.5” exhaust), company was called 1320 Performance...wonder how much a rebuild will cost
if you decide to do a rebuild, this is the time you can install bigger cam, overbore pistons, as well as headers, intake, if it is a standard shift you can cut the flywheel down, change the differential gears. lots to play with on an overhaul.
