Over the past few months my spare tire well collects water when it rains. It seems to be coming from the seam on the right side, and today I finally took the interior panel off on that side. When I run water down the right channel from the roof (like from above the tail light) I can see water starting to pool in the corner. As I move the hose down the channel, the water continues, so it's not any of the seams above the tail light. I'm not even sure how to get in any closer between the sheet metal and the inner skin. Has anyone encountered this? Thanks, Mike Right rear corner under side panel

welcome to the forum. it is a bit difficult to figure out where the water is coming from without the outside pictures of where you have the water pouring over, but if it is from the rear windshield, the seal may be leaking. if it from the rear tail light, the light can be removed and check and clean and reseal with black weather sealant ( dap black from Home depot) and reinstall the light. back window, a shop is recommended. if its from the body seal, you might be able to pump some clear sealant around the leak area. i've had leaks from my back window, trunk seal, tail light, water into my light lenses, and trunk side plug leaked. (accord)
Without the video I tried to post it's probably impossible to understand what I'm talking about. I did some more work on it and I'll share it here in case someone else has a similar issue. I'm still not sure what to use to fix it and may leave it to my mechanic.
This picture is looking up from under the car near the muffler. The daylight in the picture is only because I removed the tail lights.
try to clean/scrape as much of the old seal off around the area. you can try some cleaner from home depot it takes the place of acetone, and wipe the area clean. purchase the dap black sealant and put it on the cleaned area. then check for leaks after the seal has harden. if not there, continue to search for the leak as you did.. some times it takes a few times to find the leak.use plastic/latex gloves to keep most of the sealant off your fingers.
Brought it to my mechanic, who's very (way too) thorough. He took off the back bumper and found that the vertical seam on the right side was leaking very badly. He resealed both sides and billed me for 7 hours labor. A 7 year old car really shouldn't have this issue. Traded it in right away.
Hi! I have discovered that water collects in the spare tire well in my 2010 CRV. I had the rubber gasket replaced around the back hatch door and still am getting water in. The mechanic ran a hose through the sunroof drain but didn’t get any water leaking in the back. Does anyone have any suggestions ? Thank you!
welcome to the forum Lous2ndgirl. . It may take a while to find a leak into your spare tire compartment, but remove everything in the back area of the spare. have someone pour water on the car from above the spare tire area while you sit on the inside and look at all the attatchements seals, light socket area. or you can wait for a rainy day and do the same. looking for drips or water marks. you can also blow baking soda or baby powder around the metals to see if you can see a trail mark. you will need to be patient, and have a good eye. leaks come from back window seals, side window seals, places you would think no way water can leak through. i've seen many places.
