New 2020 CRV with clicking noise when moving steering wheel at low speeds
My brand new CRV EX (3 days old) is in the shop already. The noise didn't show during the drive around the lot (I did a test drive at another dealer so I did not do a test drive of this vehicle at the place I ended up purchasing from although I did drive it around the big lot and was able to maneuver at low speeds). It was the following day as I was getting into my driveway and my radio was off that I noticed a clicking noise when I turned the steering wheel as the car was still moving to get in the garage. I drove the car again and if the noise was present if I swung the steering wheel from side to side while driving at low speed (10-15 mph) or turning. When I took it back to the dealership to their shop (this is a Honda dealer btw), the foreman rode it with me, he tested it and he said it was a body noise and could be something with suspension but he wanted me to leave the car overnight so they can plug in the cables and listen in to the sounds so they can pinpoint and determine what it is. Here I am freaking out already. BRAND NEW CAR and it could potentially spend the entire weekend in the shop. The service advisor told me he has seen that happen with some Pilots and sometimes it ends up being nuts and bolts tightened too much at the factory. Has someone experienced this in the past? Or would know how bad this is? What recourse do I have? I am thinking worse case scenario. Or am I stressing too much over this? Thanks!
welcome to the forum. currently you are over stressing. give the dealer a chance to work on it and time. my wife's HR-V developed a tock sound in the back at 20k miles. we took it in and they could not find it. I drove it around and documented when and what the car was dong when the sound could be heard. going up or down a drive way as i turned in either direction, also on certain bumps on the road. after 3 times in the shop and 2 days of dealership driving, they found the cross tork link needed retorque. they also replaced the shock and link rubber bushings. no noise since. 27k miles.
They used the "stethoscope" for cars yesterday morning and found the problem. "There is a defective part in the mount". They ordered the part and will be fixing it today. They have seen 2 other CR-Vs and a Pilot with the same exact problem (new vehicles all). I am hoping this will take care of it and wouldn't be surprised if Honda releases a bulletin soon about this if they haven't already. I don't have the car yet but waiting patiently to pick it up this afternoon.
Yes, I knew I was overstressing because it's a brand new car and I would have hoped I wouldn't have issues. That was the first thing in my mind: I might need a new car AGAIN! and that's an uphill battle.
Thanks for your post.
