Default U-codes plus P0172 - fuel injectors??

Hi,

I’ve looked, but haven’t found other posts that have U codes + P0172 mentioned. I’m desperately trying to see if others have had U codes such as those below (along with P0172), and whether replacing the fuel injectors solved those U codes (and not just P0172). It doesn’t pass the sniff test to me but maybe someone else here can confirm?

Background:

I have a 2019 CR-V with 94K miles.

Recently, we’ve been seeing issues where after turn key in ignition, all the dash lights turn on, and unable to switch into drive without shift interlock bypass. This is very intermittent. Took to my local mechanic, and he pulled the following codes: P0172, U0401-68, U0416-68, another U code, and C1870-00. The P0172 didn’t bother him so much as the U codes and C code did. He mentioned it seemed like some kind of electrical problem, and advised I take to Honda dealership.

Honda dealership ran diagnostic and said fuel injectors + spark plugs need replaced and quoted $2200. I asked service manager about the U and C codes, if the fuel injector would really cause those issues; last thing I want to do is pay to have something fixed that it’s the cause of the real problem I’m trying to get fixed. The Honda service manager said that those are like ancillary codes, and that they can come up with any fault including fuel being too rich, and was confident replacing injectors would solve the issue.

My local mechanic is not convinced, but admitted he is not a Honda expert.

Does anyone else have similar experience? Is it reasonable that the fuel injector is true cause behind the symptoms and other fault codes (besides P0172)?

On the 1.5T CR-V, bad injectors are a known issue and commonly trigger P0172. The extra U and C codes are usually secondary faults caused by the rich condition. Replacing the injectors and plugs often resolves both the rich code and the communication codes. The dealer’s explanation makes sense here. If cost is a concern, check if your VIN is covered under Honda’s extended injector warranty, as many 2017–2019 models are.

You have steering codes and ABS codes tell me how they get fixed with injectors or plugs or any other engine component. I don't see it. Never have.

@jacobgary the post you are responding to is 7 months old!

l’m thinking the OP either already has
his answer or sold the car.

and I agree with @grcauto . Injectors alone will not fix the OP’s issue. Something else is rotten in Denmark.
