Default Wheel and Tire question please help!

I want to get my husband new rims and tires for his 03 civic si but i don't know what size to get.

I know they have to be 4x100 and i know he wants 17 inch rims. but i don't know what width to get? if i get them 17x8 or 17x8.5 is that too wide? will i be able to get them put on at pep boys or walmart?

Please help! thanks!

first off 17s are to big in my personal opinion 16s would be the biggest i would go for a couple reasons. one they will throw off the speedometer they will give the already slow car less acceleration worse gas mileage and weigh down the car not to mention give the car a harsh ride. they will also look stupid if the car is on stock suspension it will look like a monster truck. a 8 inch wide wheel would require stretched tires stretching tires can be dangerous and could potentially cause an accident from over stressing the side walls of the tire because of that alot of tire stores will not mount stretched tires nor are they aquipt to do so you need special tools and that is a liability for them. a mild stretch would be less dangerous if checked daily and kept at higher then normal psi. another major factor is the offset of the wheel without that knowledge its impossible to tell you if it will fit.what look is your husband going for a flush look, hellaflush, euro poke ???.

i would say the ideal size for that car would be 16×8 +20 offset on a 205/40/16 tire. also he will most likely need the fenders rolled if his car is lowered which it will need to be to pull of that look.

I agree anything over 16 would look out of place and 8 in. Wide would possibly scrub.
