Hello there, '99 odyssey 163k having problem with the knocking noise when start, after a few minutes or drive a couple miles the noise will ease a bit, pinging noise when taking to drive especially acceleration applied. They adjust valve clearance to eliminate the noise from the valve but they found out that the rear bank of the engine is darker than the front. The dealership said was oil starvation but they know I do change oil every 3 months or 5000km or whatever comes first. Is there any suggestion to correct this problem other than overhauling. Thanks in advance, and appreciate for reply.

 

welcome to the forum. low oil pressure will cause the engine to have a knocking noise when first started, also loose bearings from ware. changing oil pump is expensive, find if there is an external electric oil pump that you might mount to prime your engine before starting could be a suggestion. lot less than an overhaul.
